There are many web sites and web pages offering information about Andean rock art (hyperlinks are underlined), but the most relevant web sites dealing with my study area (western Peru and the north of Chile) are:

 

RUPESTREWEB - COLOMBIA

Publicación electrónica especializada en la investigación del arte rupestre de América Latina.

This most extensive web site deals with the whole of Latin America, but specifically offers many articles describing rock art sites in my study area: the Desert Andes. This large area mainly covers the western part of the Andes and includes northern Chile (the Atacama Desert) and the whole of western Peru. At the moment (up to January 2017) 462 high quality papers are available in this major web site. Unfortunately, since January 2017 it seems that RupestreWeb has stopped its publishing activities.

 

TRACCE - ITALY

This international On-Line Rock Art Bulletin (based in Italy) publishes many interesting papers (and more) about rock art. Several of my publications are available on this web site. Those papers deal mainly with Andean rock art subjects (often together with videos), but occasionally rock art from other areas has been described (Africa and Northern America).

Este boletín internacional en línea de Arte Rupestre (con sede en Italia) publica muchos artículos interesantes (y más) sobre el arte rupestre. Varias de mis publicaciones están disponibles en este sitio web. SIARB: BOLIVIA

La Sociedad de Investigación del Arte Rupestre de Bolivia.SIARB, founded in 1987, is an official member of IFRAO; the International Federation of Rock Art Organizations. Their more limited but informative web site mainly deals with Bolivia. However, SIARB publishes an excellent (printed) Journal - Boletín de SIARB - in which also several papers dealing with the rock art of Peru and Chile occur. Some of those papers can be downloaded from their web site.

 

APAR - PERÚ

APAR (Asociación Peruana de Arte Rupestre) was founded in 2007. APAR is the only official - IFRAO acknowledged - Peruvian Rock Art Organisation and thus is limited to Peru only.

Es una lástima APAR-Perú nunca presta atención a ninguna de mis publicaciones sobre el arte rupestre en Perú. Incluso la publicación de mi libro sobre arte rupestre en el Valle de Huacapongo - Virú (ResearchGate) en enero de 2018 fue completamente ignorada por APAR-Perú. Bueno, acepto que no puedo obligar a APAR-Perú a publicar información sobre mis publicaciones. Pero lo que no acepto es que APAR-Perú ofensivamente me acusa en público de algo que nunca he hecho. Por lo tanto, escribí mis comentarios sobre APAR-Perú.

 

It is a shame APAR-Peru does never pay any attention to any of my publications about rock art in Peru. Even the publication of my book about Rock Art in the Huacapongo Valley - Virú (ResearchGate) in January 2018 was completely ignored by APAR-Peru. Well, I accept that I cannot force APAR-Peru to post information about my publications. But what I do not accept is that APAR-Peru offensively accuses me in public of something that I have never done. Therefore, I published my comments on APAR-Peru.

 

CHILE

Unfortunately, there are no special organisations or web sites only dealing with rock art in Chile. However, there are many web sites and web pages that will offer information about many rock art sites.

 

IMPORTANT REMARK

No hay arte rupestre peruano, chileno o argentino; único arte rupestre que ahora se encuentra ubicado en las repúblicas modernas de Perú y Chile y Argentina. Por lo tanto, prefiero hablar de arte rupestre andino. Las fronteras políticas modernas no tienen nada que ver con la distribución del arte rupestre prehistórico, y por lo tanto los estudios de arte rupestre deberían, en mi opinión, evitar cualquier implicación política. Por otro lado, la protección del arte rupestre necesita una fuerte regulación política y, por lo tanto, las autoridades nacionales, regionales y especialmente locales son, o deberían ser, responsables de la protección y gestión de los sitios de arte rupestre sagrado. Sin embargo, sigan el ESPÍRITU de la ley (según Yanantin), no solo las palabras

 

There is no Peruvian or Chilean or Argentinean rock art; only rock art that now happens to be located in the modern republics of Peru and Chile and Argentina. Therefore, I prefer to speak of Andean rock art. Modern political boundaries have nothing to do with prehistoric rock art distribution, and therefore rock art studies should - in my opinion - avoid any political involvement. On the other hand, rock art protection needs strong political regulation and thus national, regional and especially local authorities are - or should be - responsible for the safeguard and management of the sacred rock art sites. However, follow the SPIRIT of the law (according to Yanantin), not just the words.
